Ever played Monopoly? If that is the kind of game you enjoy, then Hotel Tycoon should be right up your alley. The game is all about building a hotel empire, become a billionaire, and bankrupt your opponents in the process. The gameplay is very similar to that of Monopoly. You go around the board, building hotels, collecting or paying rent. However, there are many ways in which Hotel Tycoon is different from Monopoly.
In Hotel Tycoon, A lot depends on the roll of the dice as a lot of things are decided by the dice. Luck plays a big role on whether you win or lose. But there is also a certain strategy to playing the game. Whenever you land on a buying space on the board, you can purchase an adjacent hotel. You can even buy hotels that others own if they haven’t built on it. To build a hotel, you will have to land on a planning permission space. Once your hotel is built, you can add to it, increasing the rent for it with each new improvement you make.
The game was originally published as Hotels in 1974 by Asmodee Games. Designed by Denys Fisher, this quaint little game can be played by 2 to 4 players. The gameplay can last for up to 90 minutes, making this a decent game for most gamers. Re-released recently again, Hotel Tycoon has delightful illustrations and the board is an imaginative fantasyland. One of the draws of Hotel Tycoon is that the board is three dimensional and can recreate the magic of an actual city under construction.
The game box contains a game board, 28 buildings, 8 recreational facilities, 8 title deeds, 1 control tower, 1 hangar, 30, hotel entrances, 4 aeroplanes, 2 dice, as well as a pack of bank notes. If you enjoyed playing Monopoly, then do pick up this excellent hotel empire building game and show off your financial prowess!
