The game contains 11 track tiles, 5 pawns of animals made of wood with stickers, 5 turbo tokens, 91 cards, including 81 racing cards, 5 betting cards, and 5 player aid cards. It also includes a starting line, a finishing line, a podium, and a first player token. The illustrations by Mathieu Leyssenne are gorgeous give a genuine feel of the story.
This is a betting game, with five animals (wolf, fox, lamb, rabbit, and turtle) participating in the race. The aim of the game is to ensure that your animal wins. The Hare and the Tortoise is a load of fun with a lot of bluffing, hiding, and strategizing. What makes the game more interesting is that each animal moves in its own special way and has special characteristics. For example, the wolf can howl and prevent the other players from going forward.
